Akweya voice support for new university

Presentation by the Akpa Community Development Association (ACDA) at the Public Hearing on The Bill for an Act to Establish The Federal University Of Health Sciences, Akwete-Akpa, Otukpo LGA, Benue State On Monday, November 6, 2017

PROTOCOL
We wish to place on record our gratitude to the Federal Government of Nigeria for the thinking that led to the decision to establish a Federal University of Health Sciences which is the first of its kind in the sub-region.

We wish to particularly thank the former President of the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator D. A. B. Mark, GCON for his dogged determination in the protection and defence of the interest of the Nigerian people, especially we his constituents.

We are very grateful to the incumbent President of the Senate, Senator (Dr.) Bukola Saraki, GCON, the leadership of the Senate and all the Senators of the Federal Republic and indeed, the NASS, for their commitment to the realisation of this laudable objective.

Distinguished Chairman, we became aware of this public hearing at about noon today, even though the University is located in our community, we were not invited. Considering the importance we attach to the establishment of the University in our District (Akpa District in Otukpo Local Government Area) and its immense benefit to the entire nation, we ensured that we registered our support to the effort of the NASS in this worthy cause.

That is why we are here.

Distinguished Senators, the Akpa people in their joy and their magnanimity donated several hectares of our farmland, hunting reserves and ponds to the University as our contribution to national development.

Some compensation have been paid by the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi but a large part of the compensation is still outstanding. Our commitment is to ensure that the University is established for our people and the entire nation.

Distinguished Senators, we support wholeheartedly this Bill and plead with you to pass the Bill into law and follow up with the Executive to expedite action on its implementation.

Distinguished Chairman, we thank you and pray that the Almighty God will continue to imbue you with wisdom to lead our nation aright.

Barr. Aba Ejembi (Och’Ogblega Adankari)
National President.
